Our Community
At Philly ALC, learning happens best when it’s driven by curiosity, supported by community, and connected to the wider world

You are welcome here
A Hub for Families
Families join Philly ALC not only for programs, but for connection. Parents and caregivers are invited to cowork in our spaces, join in offerings, or participate in our Deschooling Parenting Circle. By supporting each other, we create a network of trust and care that makes self-directed education possible.
A Hub for Youth
Children and teens come to Philly ALC to explore their interests, follow their curiosity, and practice autonomy in community. Whether through outdoor play, imaginative exploration, or complex projects, they experience learning as joyful, meaningful, and self-directed.
A Hub for Facilitators and Leaders
We are also an incubator for self-directed education in Philadelphia. Facilitators, educators, and community leaders come here to share skills, collaborate on projects, and start new initiatives. Philly ALC is a living model — and a launchpad for new SDE spaces across the city.
How We Learn Together
-
We set intentions, try things out, reflect, and share.
-
We practice consent and respect in our relationships.
-
We use the city and the natural world as our classroom.
-
We celebrate each person’s unique way of learning and growing.

Philly ALC is not just a program — it’s a community of people reimagining what learning can be, together.
